about

This is one of the first songs written for the album and is definitely about looking wistfully back at life on the one hand and not having your kids listen to you when you try to use your experience to guide them on the other. I came through it ok even though I made mistakes when I was younger. You try to tell the kids not to make them too (they will) but you're hopeful they'll come through it okay. Life is always a learning experience.

lyrics

Nobody wants to hear a tale 'bout what an old guy thinks
Well it's your tough luck that you're here, let me buy you a drink
Cause I'm a-gonna tell you a story where there ain't no hero
Just a plain old tale of a guy trying to make his own road

Now my life story might not be full of sorrow and woe
Just a long hard slog in the end, not much to show
But I did it with style and just a little dollop of grace
And you can see the joy and the sadness written here on my face

Well I've loved and I've lost and I've loved again
I've gained and I've kept my share of friends
I've laughed and I've cried and I've grabbed my share of the vine

And I've aged like Fine Wine
A little brash at the start, oh but I mellow with time
Not too bitter and not too sweet, tart at the start
But you could get used to me
Like a Fine Wine, like a fine wine

Now my daddy tried to tell me at the start, but what did he know
Well I was full of myself and what could the old man really show me
Now I'd like to give you that same sort of advice
But I can see you're just like me, you wouldn't look at me twice

Well I've paid my dues and I've paid my bills
I kept pushing that boulder up that hill
I stopped to smell the roses and I've had me a hell of a time

And I've aged like Fine Wine
A little brash at the start, oh but I mellow with time
Not too bitter and not too sweet, tart at the start
But you could get used to me
Like a Fine Wine, like a Fine Wine

It's not bad getting old, yeah

Like a Fine Wine
A little brash at the start, oh but I mellow with time
Not too bitter and not too sweet, tart at the start
But you could get used to me
Like a Fine Wine, like a Fine Wine
Like a Fine Wine
